Non-Surgical Gum Disease Treatment
When gums are healthy regular cleanings are routine every six months. The gums will be nice and pink without puffiness or bleeding.
When the gums are red, puffy and bleed when you brush this is a sign of infection. An early stage of this is called gingivitis. With a proper cleaning schedule and great homecare this is reversable.
When the gums are red, bleeding, flimsy, and sometimes painful this stage is called periodontitis. With scaling and root planning (deep cleaning while numb) this is reversable.
When the gums have reached this stage they will begin receeding, changing color, and puss is visible reversing this may not be an option. At this point the teeth begin to move and there is loss of bone structure. Im most cases the next step is extractions leading to dentures.
